Keeping Up With the Kardashians star, Khloe Kardashian, caused controversy with her latest Instagram photo, in which she wore a niqab while visiting Dubai on Tuesday.
A niqab is a cloth that is wore by Muslim women that covers the face leaving only the eyes visible, as part of sartorial hijab. According to a dress code guide on what to wear as a visitor of the United Arab Emirates, tourists and residents can wear whatever they like, within reason. It is not required to wear a niqab or hijab.
Kardahian captioned the photo, “Habibi Love,” which means beloved in Arabic.
This is not the first time the E! star has been under fire for an Instagram post. Back on Halloween of 2014, Kardashian posted a photo with Scott Disick, wearing similar garb captioning the photo, “Sheik p***y.”
On Keeping Up With the Kardashians, the reality star apologized for the photo and said she did not mean to offend anyone with what she wrote.
“I’m really upset that I’ve offended anybody,” she said on the show. “I’m even more bothered that the commenters think I’m poking fun at their culture. I didn’t realize how offensive it was. I didn’t know I was doing anything wrong. I really just have to be more aware of what I write, even if I think it’s tongue in cheek and I have to be more sensitive to that. I’m sorry to anybody I offended. That was the last thing I ever wanted to do.”
Kardashian has not yet commented on this latest photo.
