17 years after his untimely passing, Chris Farley returns to the big screen once again. Virgil Films acquired the documentary I Am Chris Farley, with plans to release later in the summer.
Variety got the update on the documentary, directed by Brent Hodge (A Brony Tale) and Derik Murray (I Am Evil Knievel) which features interviews from Dan Aykroyd, Christina Applegate, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Molly Shannon and David Spade. Also interviewed for the film are Farley's four siblings, Barbara, Kevin, John and Tom Jr., the latter the co-author behind Chris' biography The Chris Farley Show: A Biography in Three Acts, also written by Tanner Colby.
The upcoming documentary looks at the comedian from his upbringing in Madison, Wis. to his days at Marquette University, then follows his Second City life, his time on SNL and also his limited filmography, including vehicles with Spade like Tommy Boy, and Black Sheep, before his drug overdose at 33 in 1997.
I Am Chris Farley debuts on Spike on August 10, with a VOD release to follow. In the meantime, do yourself a favor and read Tom Farley Jr. and Colby's book if you haven't already. It's an incredibly insightful read, filled with great detail and fascinating insights on his shy, sensitive off-screen persona he was often afraid to show the general public.
