Just when everyone started to think Jay Z and Beyoncé did in fact run the world, Sony put the moguls back in their place, reminding the two that when it comes to music, Sony has control over the power couple. Or at least Beyoncé, since she is under their record label.
Ever since Jay Z launched Tidal, a new music streaming service, earlier this year, there has been a lot of negative reaction coming from fans and other musicians.
This time however, Sony is in talks to be pulling their music off of the new streaming service, which includes co-owner, Beyoncé.
According to Bloomberg Business, the record label is looking for “large advances” to allow their artists the right to stream their music on another platform. If Jay Z does not pay what Sony is asking for, all of the label’s music will be taken down. According to Vulture, Sony did that earlier this month with SoundCloud.
Other Sony artists and co-owners of Tidal include, Usher, Daft Punk and Alicia Keys, whose work would also be pulled if Jay Z does not give Sony the money they are asking.
