'The Red Road' Season 2, Episode 3: 'Intruders' recap

After hearing of Captain Warren’s suicide, Harold, Jean and her parents discuss their uneasiness. Marie meets with the Tribal Council to discuss the issue of a casino, which Sky is fiercely opposed to. They take their argument back to Marie’s house, where they are held up by two hooded men who are looking for the missing money. A shootout ensues at Marie’s until Kopus arrives, saving Marie and Sky.

Jean’s parents tell Jean they are planning on moving to upstate New York and would like Harold and Jean to come with them. Jean takes Kate to go to her parents’ house, where she searches for a vent she remembers from her youth. Harold joins Frank in the search for the hooded men and returns home to Jean who tells him Captain Warren confessed to killing his wife right before he took his own life.

This was an amazing episode of The Red Road. The entire world of these characters is starting collapse onto itself. The captain’s suicide leaves the police department in limbo. If Harold is not chosen to be the captain, the relationship between whites and the Lenape becomes even more heated. With the tribe’s internal and external struggles, things are not looking bright anyone at the moment.

This is hinted at when Harold and Frank (the father of the kid Jean hits in season one) partners up. The two end up getting into a slapping match when on the hunt for the hooded men because no one has really talk about the accident. After the two spots a man fixing a flat in the middle of the night, the two get into a shootout and Harold ends up killing one of the hooded men while the other escaped in a Cadillac. After the ordeal, Frank reveals that his son likes some of the toys Jean left him in episode one.

This episode revealed some important things as well as some new relationships. Kopus and Junior are beginning to see eye to eye in regards to Mac’s murder. Junior apologizes for hitting Kopus in episode two and getting a lynch-mob after Phillip. There is a sense that Kopus and Junior will team-up to find Mac’s killer(s) as soon as some trust is established.

This was an episode about the men. However, in regards to Jean, she is still learning to let the voices in and not fight them anymore. Also, Kopus hooks up with Sonya (Michael’s girlfriend) with hesitation but that relationship will probably likely to continue.

This series is starting to pick up. I am looking forward to seeing this “good guy” version of Kopus.
