It's not surprising Disney has a new stage production of one of their most recently beloved film, Tangled, in the works. What is surprising, however, is the destination of its premiere. To kick off Tangled: The Musical, Disney unveils the new stage show their Disney Magic Cruise Line ship this November.
As announced on the Disney Parks Blog, this new production comes from eight-time Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken and Grammy-winning lyricst Glenn Slater. They wrote the songs for the original 2010 film and bring three brand new songs to the November show.
Just like the animated feature, Tangled: The Musical tells the tale of Rapunzel, who is also joined by Flynn Rider, Mother Gothel and Maximus the horse. While the show is the works at the moment, updates are scheduled to come as it gears up to the stage.
Featuring the voices of Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi, Donna Murphy, Ron Perlman and more, Tangled received one Oscar nomination for Slater and Menken for their original song, "I See the Light."
Tangled: The Musical is, of course, just one of the movies Disney hopes to transition to the stage. Others include Frozen: The Musical, of course, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
