Stevan Ridley signs with New York Jets

After former New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis signed with the New York Jets last month, another Patriot has signed with the Jets. Former Patriots running back Stevan Ridley has signed with the Jets.

The Jets signed Ridley to a one-year contract. The deal was finalized on Wednesday. Details of the deal weren’t disclosed. Ridley visited with the Jets last week and he also visited with the Washington Redskins and the Miami Dolphins, according to ESPN. He strongly considered signing with the Dolphins or Washington but decided on the Jets.

"Sending love to all my day one fans, and every teammate I've had the pleasure to take the field with," Ridley wrote in a post on Instagram. "We all know it's a business, yet it's also a blessing. So either way you see it, you'll never understand. Love New England, Love my former teammates, and I'm truly thankful for the opportunity the Patriot's organization has blessed me with. However it's #ontotheJETS."

Ridley was drafted by the Patriots in 2011. In 2012 he rushed for a career-high 1,263 yards and 12 touchdowns. In 2013 he rushed for 773 yards. He has struggled the last two seasons as he has just nine touchdowns in that time and averaged just 3.6 yards a carry last year before suffering a knee injury, according to the New York Post. The knee injury ended his season after just six games.

The Jets have been looking for running backs to replace Chris Johnson, whose option wasn’t used in February. Ridley joins a Jets backfield that includes Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell. He becomes the 15th new player for the Jets this offseason.
