Among the biggest pranksters in the superhero world, it should come to no surprise Deadpool would come baring jokes on this first day of April. Through the help of Extra, Ryan Reynolds and the Merc with a Mouth cheekily confirmed Deadpool will be rated R through a new viral video for the holiday.
Found on JoBlo.com, the site reported an "exclusive" update on how the new superhero movie would receive a PG-13 rating. A point of contention for fans since the biggest reason Deadpool took years to make due to its potential R-rating, fans came to the site expecting the worse for the new movie.
With this headline, they were welcomed by an interview Mario Lopez hosted with Reynolds between shooting to discuss the rating. As the interview goes on, however, the titular character comes into focus for a peculiarly ferocious moment to confirm the 2016 will, indeed, be R-rated.
For a little while, Reynolds played along with the game as he tweeted the following:
A PG-13 #deadpool will still have 4th wall breaking, a shit-ton of action and at least 3 chimichangas. Zero need to panic. I promise.
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 1, 2015
This point was particularly, and briefly, heartbreaking for fans as Reynolds recently told fans he was "still fighting" for the R-rating as ScreenRant reported a couple days ago. Of course, anyone who watched the video knew this was all a joke for April Fool's, and Reynolds later confirmed it was a gaff when he tweeted this later on:
February 12th. There will be blood. Guns. F-bombs. And graphic, expertly lit French Unicorn sex. #deadpoolRatedR @deadpoolmovie #Aprilpools
— Ryan Reynolds (@VancityReynolds) April 1, 2015
This news is more refreshing than surprising, as the test footage fans loved to get Deadpool finally made was decidedly R-rated.
Currently filming in Vancouver, Deadpool also stars Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein and Gina Carano. Directed by Tim Miller, the soon-to-be R-rated superhero movie comes to theaters on February 12, 2016.
