New 'Poltergeist' trailer still doesn't prove why a remake is needed (Video)

20th Century Fox posted a new trailer for its still-pointless remake of the horror classic Poltergeist. Produced by Sam Raimi, it’s pretty clear that the remake doesn’t stray too far from the original.

The new trailer runs a hair under two minutes and actually features much of the same footage seen in the first trailer, released in February. It’s clear that the biggest difference between the 1982 original and the new version is that the spirits are now coming through hi-def televisions and iPhones instead of just a tube television, unless there’s some big twist we don’t know about. That’s certainly one way to update the story.

Sam Rockwell leads the cast, along with Rosemarie DeWitt and Jared Harris. Kennedi Clements plays Madison, the young girl who gets trapped by the spirits.

The new film is directed by Gil Kenan (Monster House, City of Ember) and written by David-Lindsay Abaire (Rabbit Hole).

Poltergeist is now set to hit theaters on May 22. But you could always did up your copies of the original and watch that.
