Kanye West and Dame Dash are being sued by Michael Medina, who is claiming the two ripped of the name of their new film “Loisaidas" from his Latin musical duo by the same name.
Medina feels that the film is tarnishing his brand because it promotes murder, violence and drug sales, TMZ reports. He wants the court to stop the film, which was released in February. He is reportedly acting as his own lawyer and seeking an unspecified amount in damages.
Upon seeing the news of being sued, Dash took to his Instagram page to respond, MTV notes.
“Just doesn’t stop…all part of the game I guess…as yall see independence means fight every day…it’s not for everybody…” Dash wrote. “and how the f–k I’m i supposed to know there is a group called @loisaidas and why wouldn’t they just call me first…why tmz?…shout out to tmz though they put up the trailer…”
Dash also claims to have looked up the trademark, which he says Medina doesn’t have the rights to.
“The stupid ass crew that’s talking about suing me doesn’t even own their own trademark…this the dumb sh-t I go through everyday…every cornball wants their moment…enjoy it ..” Dash continued.
In an interview with The New York Post, Medina says he tried to approach Dash last year while he was filming the movie to discuss the trademark conflict, but was rebuffed by security.
Medina wants to reach an “amicable” resolution where Dash and West cease from using the name of his bachata group.
“I’m not in this for a paycheck,” Medina told The New York Post. “But I’m not going to let anyone use something that I worked hard for, that I’ve branded, that’s under my label.”
