HBO, Tom Hanks to make Wright brothers mini-series

The Wright brothers soon will fly again. HBO and Tom Hanks/Gary Goetzman's Playtone team together again to make a mini-series based on the aviation brothers.

Deadline reports the companies recently bought the rights to David McCullough's new book The Wright Brothers. The text recounts the story of Orville and Wilbur Wright and their days repairing and selling bicycles to work towards their passion of inventing flying machines for the upcoming 20th century. No word at the moment on who will play the Wright brothers, or when it would come to TV screens.

This is, of course, not the first time HBO and Playtone got together. They previously worked alongside each other to make Band of Brothers, The Pacific, From the Earth to the Moon, Oliver Kitteridge and John Adams, which was also based on a McCullough book. They also soon start production on a Lewis and Clark mini-series, with Casey Affleck to play Merriwether Lewis and Matthias Schoenaerts to perform as William Clark.

In fact, this isn't the only aviation project HBO/Playtone work on at the moment. They also have Masters of the Air, about air battles in WWII, geared to be made soon with Steven Spielberg to reteam with his Band of Brothers/The Pacific partners to bring to life.

Beyond the mini-series front, Playtone and HBO also soon starts production on My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, which is written and stars Hanks' constant work partner Nia Vardalos.
