Brad Bird announces he's begun writing 'The Incredibles 2'

We all remember the goofy family of Pixar superheroes that saved the world from an out of control robot. Since then, we've been wondering what happened to Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Jack Jack, and Dash and whether Pixar would carry their story any further.

Now, Brad Bird, who has worked on films like and The Iron Giant, has confirmed to NPR that he's, "Just staring to write it, so we’ll see what happens." Now that production of his live-action film Tomorrowland, starring George Clooney, is coming to an end, the writer can focus on bringing back to life The Incredibles family.

Last month, The Celebrity Cafe reported that Pixar will be going back to sequels with The Incredibles 2 and Cars 3. Pixar confirmed the news on Twitter writing, “It’s official: we’re currently working on new films featuring your favorite characters from The Incredibles and Cars."

The original story detailed the lives of married superheroes Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, who are forced to assume mundane lives as Bob and Helen Parr after all super-powered activities have been banned by the government. While Mr. Incredible loves his wife and kids, he longs to return to a life of adventure, and he gets a chance when summoned to an island to battle an out-of-control robot. Craig T. Nelson starred as the voice of Mr. Incredible, while Holly Hunter played his spunky wife. Samuel L. Jackson lent his voice to the character Frozone, Mr. Incredible's best friend.

Pixar has a history of eventually following their films with sequels, regardless of how much time lapses in between. Cars, Toy Story, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo, Despicable Me all have sequels or will soon enough.

The company does have some original films headed our way. Good Dinosaur is due out in November 2015 and Inside Out will be released this June. The long awaited follow up to Finding Nemo, Finding Dory, hits cinemas July 2016.
