This week’s column has adventure and drama abounds. Spectre is the latest in the adventures of suave super spy Agent 007, James Bond. In this installment, Bond goes up against a sinister organization and an enemy who might know him better than he knows himself. Southpaw deals with a boxer’s rise to the top while his personal life crumbles. Finally, Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation has IMF Agent Ethan Hunt and his team back again, this time battling to prove the existence of and to destroy the Syndicate, an organization of kill to order assassins. All three films are bursting with excitement, emotion, passion, thrills as well as plenty of mysteries, tricks and massive explosions. Chock full of outrageous stunts, disturbing beatings and edge of your seat action sequences, all three films, are ripe with A-list celebrities headlining their casts, and are sure to be huge hits with moviegoers on each one’s opening day.
Spectre is the latest installment in the 007 James Bond movie franchise. It’s the second in the franchise to be directed by Sam Mendes. Starring Daniel Craig as the debonair yet lethal MI6 spy James Bond along with Ralph Fiennes, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice’s Monica Bellucci, Horrible Bosses 2's Christoph Waltz, The Grand Budapest Hotel’s Léa Seydoux, Ben Whishaw, Skyfall’s Naomie Harris, Andrew Scott from the BBC television series Sherlock, Showtime’s original television series Penny Dreadful’s Rory Kinnear and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista. In this installment, a cagey message from Bond’s past sends him after an evil organization as the new M battles to keep MI6 afloat. The film’s trailer displays Bond getting into his usual trouble amidst secrets, betrayals, deceptions and of course lots of fiery blasts. Along the way, Bond is embroiled in ever more harrowing death defying situations as he uncovers the horrid reality behind the mysterious organization known as SPECTRE. It opens in theaters on Friday, November 6.
Southpaw is a drama starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Rachel McAdams, Naomie Harris, Forest Whitaker, Tyrese Gibson, 50 Cent and Fifty Shades of Grey’s Rita Ora. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the plot chronicles the life ofboxer Billy Hope (Gyllenhaal) and his success in the ring, but also showcases how that success sets his personal life on a tragic downward spiral. The movie’s trailer illustrates Gyllenhaal’s Hope being pummeled in the boxing ring yet he keeps going back for more despite the objections of his wife Maureen (McAdams,) who fears for his health and their young daughter losing their father. It also demonstrates the sheer devastation that befalls Hope’s family as he ends up losing everything he holds dear. It opens in theaters on Friday, July 31.
Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation is the fifth installment in the Mission: Impossible movie franchise starring Tom Cruise. Cruise once again plays the no holds barred IMF agent Ethan Hunt. Also reprising their roles from the last film, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol are Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg and Ving Rhames along with the new cast additions of Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson of the BBC television series, The White Queen, and Sean Harris of the cancelled Showtime television series The Borgias. On this adventure, Hunt and his fellow IMF team members must prove the existence of the Syndicate, a thought to be mythical band of assassins out to destroy the IMF forever. The flick’s trailer presents Hunt engaging in even more death defying stunts in order to prove the Syndicate’s existence and save all his fellow IMF agents from being eradicated by these killers. It also opens in theaters on Friday, July 31.
