Age is just a number for many of the actors in this week’s new releases and it’s evident in a new romantic comedy and an action flick. Dev Patel stars in two big films entering theaters, a sequel to his hit 2011 comedic drama and a new sci-fi action film.
The streets are patrolled by robotic police in the futuristic film Chappie. When one robot is taken in and reprogrammed to think and feel like a human, it becomes a target to those who feel it’s a threat to humanity. Hugh Jackman, Sigourney Weaver and Dev Patel star in the sci-fi adventure film. The action film runs for two hours and is rated R for violence, language and nudity.
A man starts his own company with just two employees in Unfinished Business. In order for the company to survive, he must close a big deal in Europe. He’ll do whatever it takes to woo the potential clients and get them to sign on the dotted line. The one hour and thirty minute comedy stars Vince Vaughn, Dave Franco, Tom Wilkinson, James Marsden, and Sienna Miller. It’s rated R for sex, nudity, language and drugs.
With his first property almost sold out and two new guests coming in, Sonny looks to expand in The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. As he lays the foundation to open a second hotel, he’s also planning his wedding. The sequel to the hit film picks up on the lives of the hotel guests. The PG comedic drama stars Dev Patel, Bill Nighy, Maggie Smith, Judi Dench and Richard Gere. It’s playing for two hours and two minutes.
A group of friends capture a beer tycoon in Kidnapping Mr. Heineken. The limited released drama is based on the real events surrounding the 1983 seizure of Alfred Heineken at gunpoint on the streets of Amsterdam. The crime produced the highest ransom for one person. Anthony Hopkins, Ryan Kwanten, Sam Worthington and Jim Sturgess star in the one hour and thirty-five minute crime drama. It’s rated R for language.
After eighteen years in prison for killing a deputy, a newly released criminal tries to start anew in Two Men in Town. With a newfound faith and the help of his parole officer, he seems to be on the right path, but a local sheriff tries to stifle his rehabilitation and send him back to jail. The limited released drama stars Forest Whitaker, Harvey Keitel, Brenda Blethyn, Ellen Burstyn and Luis Guzman. The two hour film is rated R for language.
A comedian with hopes of reviving his career, hits the road for a comedy tour in Road Hard. Not a fan of touring, the struggling funnyman must do what he despises in order to provide for his daughter. The one hour and thirty-eight minute film is based on real events in the life of comic Adam Carolla. The unrated comedy co-stars Jay Mohr, David Alan Grier, David Koechner, Larry Miller, Howie Mandel, Philip Rosenthal and Diane Farr.
A group of friends struggle to find relationships in New York City in X/Y. Generational gaps and modern technology all play a factor in their quest. The limited released drama runs for one hour and twenty-two minutes. The unrated film stars America Ferrera, Amber Tamblyn, Common, Melonie Diaz, Maria Dizzia and Ryan Piers Williams.
Frank and Bernie head to Louisiana for their friend’s wedding in The third film in the Bad Ass series, Bad Asses on the Bayou. What starts out as a mini vacation, turns out to be anything but when they are forced to take justice into their own hands. The comedic action film stars Danny Glover, Danny Trejo, Sammi Rotibi, John Amos and Loni Love. The one hour and twenty-five minute limited released action film is rated R for violence, language, sex and nudity.
With the apocalypse approaching, a man heads to a huge party in These Final Hours. On his way to the bash, he saves a young girl from doom. The two discover new meaning in their lives and realize they want to spend their final days. The unrated drama is running in limited theaters for one hour and twenty-seven minutes.
When a con artist’s scam goes awry, he’s forced to move out of his small town in Buzzard. The quirky, horror film loving scammer heads to Detroit with counterfeit checks in hand. The unrated, limited released drama runs for one hour and thirty-seven minutes.
A school teacher, who scolds her students for stealing, finds herself in financial trouble in The Lesson. In order to care for herself and her child, she takes extreme measures. The unrated, limited released drama is playing in limited theaters for one hour and forty-five minutes.
Next week, films will appeal to the young and old with the release of the Cinderella remake. New films from Liam Neeson, Ethan Hawke, Adam Sandler and Katherine Heigl are also hitting theaters on March 13.
