1. Saoirse Ronan – from County Carlow, Ireland
Although born in New York City, Saoirse Ronan has Irish parents and moved back to Ireland as a young child. Her career began around when she was 10 as small parts on the shows The Clinic and Proof. Her first large film was I Could Never Be Your Woman, which also starred Michelle Pfeiffer. In this film, the mother and daughter both fall in love and learn from each other. Soon, this young actress showed her ability to play various roles: young writer Briony Tallis in Atonement, curious Lina Mayfleet in City of Ember, justice-seeking victim Susie Salmon in The Lovely Bones, assassin Hanna in Hanna, baker Agatha in The Grand Budapest Hotel and human (Melanie Stryder) as well as alien (Wanda) in The Host. It was recently announced that Ronan will portray Mary in an upcoming movie Mary Queen of Scots.
