SXSW: We ask Andrew Meyer if a remake of 'The Breakfast Club' is possible

Hey, hey, hey, hey...

Thirty years after The Breakfast Club premiered in theaters, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy reunited in Austin, TX to attend a South by Southwest screening of a restored version of their high school classic.

The John Hughes comedy film follows five teenagers stuck in school for detention on a Saturday. Sharing their deepest secrets and struggles, they come to realize they have more in common than just Saturday detention.

Reminiscing on some of their favorite moments from the movie and what it was like working with director John Hughes, the two walked the red carpet alongside their executive producer, Andrew Meyer.

"John was amazing, because he knew what he wanted. He was a great writer, he understood his characters the movie we made with universal he had the best people in the world working with him like Dede Allen, one of the greatest editors ever and he was able to have one of the greatest relationships with the actors," said Meyer.

Molly Ringwald, who plays Claire, a popular bratty teen, loved that her character was completely different than her own personality.

"It was fun for me, because the character was so different than myself," said Ringwald. "It was really basically like I was playing my older sister, who was very popular in school and she was like the best eye and the most popular, and to me it was very interesting to find the vulnerability in her and not just play her as a completely one dimensional spoiled brat."

With much speculation about a breakfast club re-make, the question had to be asked. Even Dawson's Creek re-created The Breakfast Club in an episode.

For Meyer though, when it comes to re-making the entire film, he isn't too fond of the idea.

"There's always been a lot of talk about that. I think you could never re-make it the way it was made, because it's such a classic film." said Meyer. "This is just my opinion we would never want to do anything to like lower the brand, decrease the brand, so we'd have to come up with an entirely different concept that wouldn't compete with The Breakfast Club."
