'Super Troopers 2' starts Indigogo campaign, has secured distribution if $2 million goals are met

After years of development delays and false starts, Broken Lizard's sequel Super Troopers 2 may finally happen. It'll need some help from its fans first, though.

As Collider broke, the comedy group finally begins the stepping stones towards making Super Troopers 2 a reality through a new Indiegogo page, found here. With a $2 million goal set, the project has 32 days to raise the money or else it won't happen. If it does, however, 20th Century Fox announced they'll distribute the film like they did with the first back in 2001.

"We’ve been waiting for years to do this, and meow the time has come," the FAQ page notes. "Our mustaches are thick, furry, and authoritative. The script is written and we’re getting all antsy in our pantsy to start shooting. There’s just one problem: While the studio has given us permission to make the sequel, and agreed to distribute it (at least in the USA and Canada), we need to fund the movie ourselves."

Broken Lizard then revealed they need at least two million to have the bare-bones version of Super Troopers 2 come to a theater near you. Should the movie get the money, however, plans are to start filming this summer.

While Super Troopers 2 is far from the first high-profile project to use a crowd-sourcing site to get a film made, with the most prolific and successful of late including Zach Braff's Wish I Was Here and a Vernoica Mars movie on Kickstarter, Super Troopers 2 is among the first, besides the aforementioned Veronica Mars film, to secure a distribution deal if it's successful. The more it raises, however, the bigger the release it'll get, according to the Broken Lizard crew.

Should fans give their hard-earned money to make Super Troopers 2 a reality, they should know they get some kick-ass gifts for their contributions. The most interesting would have to be that, for any fan who gives $35 or more, they get to have "The Fandango Bango," which means they get a secured ticket to Super Troopers 2 thanks to a deal scored between Broken Lizard and Fandango. Other great deals include the Troopers attending your wedding should someone give $25,000, the chance to name a character or town if you give $4,000, a private screening in your hometown for you and 24 of your friends for $3,750 and a private stand-up show for $20,000. These are literally just to name a few.

As of this publication, Super Troopers 2 has earned $263,001.
