After months of speculation, Ray Allen has announced his decision to not play this NBA season.
According to ESPN, the 39-year-old shooting guard said that he will sit out the remainder of the season and use the off-season to weigh his options.
"I've ultimately decided that I will not play this NBA season," Allen said. "I'm going to take the remainder of this season, as well as the upcoming offseason, to reassess my situation, spend time with my family and determine if I will play in the 2015-16 season."
Allen hasn't stepped foot on a NBA court since losing in last year's Finals as a member of the Miami Heat. Despite his age and time away from the game, Yahoo Sports reports that Allen takes pride in keeping himself in shape by working out and running. Allen had been in contact with several teams interested in having him join their roster including the Golden State Warriors, San Antonio Spurs, and Los Angeles Clippers. There were even rumors that he planned on signing with the Cleveland Cavaliers but those were disproved.
Allen would be an asset to any team as he is the NBA's all-time leader in 3-point field goals made with 2, 973. He was a part of the 2008 Boston Celtics championship team and won another ring with the Heat in 2013.
