Believe it or not there are other things happening in the NFL not involving LeSean McCoy and Chip Kelly. One piece of news surrounds Peyton Manning.
It was revealed today by ESPN that the NFL record holder for career passing touchdowns is very close to finalizing a paycut with the Denver Broncos.
Instead of the regular $19 million he was supposed to receive, the 38-year old future Hall of Fame quarterback will only take $15, allowing team president John Elway the possibility to put better pieces around him.
For a mere $4 million, Manning has made it clear he want to give it one final go of it to hoist the Lombardy Trophy for the second time in his career.
It's a good thing too. The Broncos have found themselves in a bit of a salary cap situation this offseason.
They were first forced to place the franchise tag on stud wide-out Demaryius Thomas. While Manning can take comfort that wide-receiver Thomas will be back as a weapon in 2015, tight-end (Julius) Thomas is another story.
Because Denver is so backed up against the cap, Julius remains unsigned, and is scheduled to hit the open market on March 10.
Whether the extra $4 million freed up in the Manning deal will be enough to lure Julius back to Denver remains to be seen.
