M.I.A. says ex-boyfriend Diplo was very ‘jealous,’ takes a dig at Oprah

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone for the 10th anniversary of her album, Arular, M.I.A. discussed how dictating ex-boyfriend Diplo was in their relationship and how Oprah Winfrey shunned her at an event in 2009.

M.I.A. says that when she was with Diplo he pretty much “shat” on everything good that was happening to her.

The singer told Rolling Stone that Diplo was constantly on her shoulder telling her she shouldn’t be doing collaborations with famous people. He also added that she shouldn’t be doing interviews or be on magazine covers because he believed she should be an underground artist.

The 39-year-old continued to say that Diplo even got so angry when she signed with Interscope that he completely trashed her hotel room.

“I basically had this man dictate to me how everything in America that I experienced was completely, like, irrelevant and it was nothing. So it was kind of a weird time for me,” she said.

Reflecting back on her relationship with Diplo, M.I.A. says she now realizes how jealous he was. “I can see that he was just jealous and he couldn't wait to be Taylor Swift's best friend and date Katy Perry," she said. "But at that time, I believed him."

M.I.A. also claims that at a Time event, where she was nominated for one of the most influential people, Oprah wasn’t willing to talk to her. Oprah did, however, stop to pose for a picture, US Magazine reports.

"Yeah, she didn't talk to me. She shut me down, M.I.A. shared. She took that photo of me, but she was just like, 'I can't talk to you because you're crazy and you're a terrorist.' And I'm like, 'I'm not. I'm a Tamil and there are people dying in my country and you have to, like, look at it because you're f--king Oprah and every American told me you're going to save the world.'"
