Chance the Rapper and Ludacris helped donate laptops to students at Alcott College Prep through the Get Schooled, Get Connected Spring Challenge in Chicago Tuesday.
The Challenge provides more than 112,000 students in Chicago with free educational tools, games, resources, or “quests” to help students engage with after a school day, ChicagoInno reports.
Depending on how many “quests” the students complete, they may become eligible to receive prizes. Individual prizes include special celebrity VIP meet-and-greets, $1,000 Get Schooled scholarships, concert and sports tickets, laptops, athletic wear and gaming systems, ABC 13 notes. Other celebrities that have participated include Christina Milian, B.o.B, and MTV's Sway Calloway.
Chance the Rapper, who is from Chicago and was a recipient of Chicago's 2014 Outstanding Youth of the Year award for his community service work, believes that having internet access is very important for young people.
“Having home Internet access can transform a young person's life, because it opens an entire world to special programs like the Get Schooled, Get Connected Challenge," Chance the Rapper said. "One student and one family at a time, this program will help close the digital divide by engaging and educating students throughout Chicago."
Rapper Ludacris, who attended, Oak Park and River Forest High School in Illinois, also seconded on how important the internet is adding, "Students need Internet access to succeed in school, and families need it to succeed economically. I went to high school in this area, so I know first-hand how important it is for students and families to have Internet access at home."
The laptops were provided by Comcast’s Internet Essentials, ChicagoInno notes.
