Archie Miller gets extension with Dayton

The University of Dayton gave men’s basketball Archie Miller a contract extension on Thursday.

The extension means that Miller will be with Dayton through the 2021-22 season. This is the second year in a row that Miller has gotten an extension. Last March Miller got an extension that went through the 2018-19, according to the Dayton Daily News. The extension is good news for Dayton because Miller has become one of the hottest commodities in the coaching market.

“It’s very humbling. It’s a privilege to coach at a place like this,” Miller said. “Me and my family feel really grateful. (Athletic Director) Tim (Wabler) has been outstanding to work with. There’s not a day that’s gone by that we haven’t had everything we need to be successful. One of the big reasons we are successful is because of our administration. When you add that up, it always feels good to be at a place that wants you. That’s how we feel.”

Miller has been the coach at Dayton since 2011. He just finished his fourth season there. This year he led Dayton to a 27-9 record and an appearance in the NCAA tournament, according to ESPN. It was Miller’s second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament. Dayton is one of six schools to win at least five tournament games in the last two years, joining Arizona, UConn, Kentucky, Michigan State, and Wisconsin. Miller was 90-47 in four years at Dayton.

Dayton lost to number three seed Oklahoma on Sunday.
