Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt announced that he will retire after the 2017 World Championships in London.
According to ESPN, Bolt told British newspaper The Daily Mail that his sponsor has asked him to continue sprinting for another year. Bolt initially said he would retire after the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Bolt added that he will only compete in one event at the championships in London.
"I'll be doing one event, the 100(m)," Bolt said. "I've already discussed it with my coach. I can concentrate on that, and on retiring on a winning note."
CNN reports that Bolt's main focus for 2015 is the World Championships in Beijing. Bolt will look to add to his eight world championships as well as beat his own record of 9.58 seconds in the 100m that he set in the 2009 World Championships in Berlin. Bolt added that he looks forward to competiting with the very best.
At 28 years old, Bolt is the world record holder for the 100, 200, and 4x100 relay.
