Trailer for 'Poltergeist' remake has spirits, now across multiple screens

They're heeeeere...again...

Earlier this week, we reported that the Poltergeist remake had released its first images, and we now have a new trailer for the updated fright flick.

The new film is a modernized version of the 1982 original and follows a family who moves into a haunted house only to have their children drawn into a terrifying spirit world. Sam Rockwell (Moon) and Rosemarie DeWitt (Rachel Getting Married) star.

Monster House helmer Gil Kenan is directing from a screenplay written by Pulitzer Prize-winning author David-Lindsay Abaire (Rabbit Hole). While original director Steven Spielberg has come on board as a producer on other remakes and re-dos like this summer's Jurassic World, he's absent here. Instead, it's prolific horror producer Sam Raimi (the Evil Dead series and its successful 2013 remake) who is guiding this new version.

Speaking to USA Today, Raimi commented on the new film's modern touches.

"The original film commented on how we've let television get out of control, babysitting our kids," he said. "It's only gotten worse with the handheld portable devices. Screens are everywhere."

To be sure, this trailer does feature an updated version of the now-familiar shot of television as portal to the spirit world, which begs the question: does a high-definition TV equate to high-definition spirits?

Poltergeist haunts movie theater screens on July 24.
