President Obama said that the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria will fail while talking about the war powers request he sent to Congress.
According to Time, Obama sent Congress a request on Wednesday to allow the use of military force in the fight against ISIS. During a statement from the White House Obama assured that ISIS would not succeed against the United States.
“Make no mistake, this is a difficult mission and it will remain difficult for some time,” Obama said. “But our coalition is on the offensive. [ISIS] is on the defensive and [ISIS] is going to lose.”
MSN reports that Obama does not intend to deploy troops on the ground in an attempt to prevent another situation like the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Obama added that U.S. troops would only be deployed if it were absolutely necessary.
The U.S. along with other forces have launched over 2,000 airstrikes against ISIS. The terrorist group has been responsible for the execution of several hostages including recently American Kayla Mueller.
