Meryl Streep will narrate documentary about Women's Health in Africa

Meryl Streep has agreed to narrate Shout Gladi Gladi, a documentary about the health of women in Africa.

Variety reports that the film will have an emphasis on fistula, a condition common in underdeveloped countries that after childbirth turns healthy women into outcasts in their villages. According to The Wrap, the documentary follows Scottish activist Ann Gloag as she works with women in Kenya, Malawi and Sierra Leone to improve maternity care access, train doctors, and provide free medical care.

“This powerful film attests to the igniting power of one woman, Ann Gloag, to set in motion hundreds of helping hands, doctors, nurses, caregivers, family and friends, to resuscitate the health and status of victims of fistula, and to give them back their lives,” Streep said.

The film is directed by Adam Friedman and Iain Kennedy and made in collaboration with The Freedom From Fistula Foundation, an organization run by Gloag. Nobel Peace laureate Wole Soyinka and Melinda Gates make appearances in the documentary as well.
