Joss Whedon says 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron's' ending is 'unhinged'

The Avengers: Age of Ultron has an ending so incredible, Joss Whedon was surprised that Marvel let him film it.

In an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Whedon spoke about the climax of the film, which will feature the Avengers battling hundreds of Ultron clones.

“I didn’t mean for it to get larger,” Whedon said. “But the climax that I pitched was completely unhinged and nobody said no, so that’s that.”

According to Whedon, the ending will also have consequences for the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He said that a big theme The Avengers: Age of Ultron is “changing everything” while keeping the elements that people love. It was important for Whedon that the ending felt like a progression.

As the film’s May 1 release date approaches, the superhero sequel continues to pick up steam. Just a few days ago, the first poster for the film was released to great fanfare.

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey, Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Hemsworth and Jeremy Renner as the Avengers themselves, while James Spader, Aaron Taylor Johnson and Elizabeth Olsen have joined the cast as well.
