Peter Parker’s ex girlfriend who was thrown off a bridge will be brought back to life in her own comic series.
According to The New York Daily News, Marvel released the first issue of Spider-Gwen this week – a character who has been dead for more than four decades, revived.
The comic book company brought Stacy back to life late last year in a mega-series called Spider-Verse. In it, she as a heroine who held the same powers as Spider-Man, himself.
She became such a hit that publishers agreed to create her own series.
Spider-Gwen No. 1 was written by Jason Latour with artwork by Robbi Rodriguez but portrays the former love in another dimension where Stacy was the one who got bit by the radioactive spider.
“Eight years ago, right when I started working on Spider-Man, Marvel approached me and a group of writers and asked if we’d like to bring Gwen back from the dead,” Dan Slott, a writer who introduced Spider-Gwen, told The Daily News.
"All of us, in one voice, said, 'No!' Like losing Uncle Ben, losing Gwen Stacy is one of the defining moments of Peter Parker's life. To literally 'dig her up' would take something away from the series,” he added.
In 1973, Gwen Stacy was killed off when the Green Goblin tossed her off the Brooklyn Bridge. However, she was revived in film by Emma Stone back in 2010 in The Amazing Spider-Man alongside Andrew Garfield.
