Original Mighty Morphin Power Rangers star Jason David Frank had some disapproving comments about the recent fan film that has gained attention this week.
IGN reports that Frank posted a video on his Facebook fan page expressing his thoughts about the Power/Rangers fan film that takes a darker and more mature look at the superhero team. In the video, Frank was critical of the short film's use of profanity and drugs.
"You can't take a brand like this and reboot it so dark and gritty ... you still have the kids who want to watch Power Rangers ... we have to be responsible and know this is still a kids brand," Frank said.
Frank, who played Tommy Oliver in four different variations of the Power Rangers series, said he was approached to star in the short film but declined after hearing the storyline. Frank added that he would like to wait to star in an official Power Rangers feature film.
Mashable reports that Saban Brands and Lionsgate are working on a full-length Power Rangers film set to be released on July 22, 2016. The original short film has been removed from YouTube due to copyright concerns.
