Details and frontrunners to play Spider-Man in new movies emerge

By know, we all know Spidey is back home at Marvel, while Sony still has custody. He appears in his own movie again in 2017, then stars alongside Iron Man, Hulk, Captain America and the rest in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Other than that, though, details have been skim, but if recent reports are true, Marvel and Sony already have the gears in motion as to where the future of Spider-Man will go.

First comes the report from The Hollywood Reporter which reveals some more insight as to what happened between Sony and Marvel's deal. Ultimately, Sony has decided to lease Spider-Man as opposed to sell him to them completely, which ultimately makes sense given how gun-hoe they are towards keeping him. That's the whole reason why they are making sure they have another Spider-Man movie in theaters in 2017.

Additionally, Sony has final say on who gets cast as Spider-Man. If you're wondering why Andrew Garfield is not being recast, a major factor in the Marvel deal was that, if they got creative leasing on the film, a new person who have to be cast in the part. As for who plays him, reports note they're looking for someone "much younger" than the 31-year-old Garfield. Also, if it wasn't apparent before, director Marc Webb will not return to the franchise, after helming the last two installments The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The reason Marvel/Sony want to go younger is because, yet again, Spider-Man finds himself back in high school in this new movie, as Variety reports. It appears they want to expose Spider-Man more in high school than he ever was in either series, even though he spent the whole The Amazing Spider-Man 1 in such schooling, and highlight on the hassles of being the web-slinger while also a high school student.

Meanwhile, Variety also reports the studio has two young actors already in mind to front-line the series. Those actors would be Logan Lerman (The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Fury) and Dylan O'Brien (Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner). At the moment, no filmmaker is assigned or has been mentioned as a replacement for Webb, although earlier reports indicated they wanted an ambitious young filmmaker, like Damien Chazelle of Whiplash, to take over the franchise. Which, as you may remember, was the exact line of thought that went into Webb's hiring, and that obviously turned out so well....

Also of note, it appears when it comes to how they split profits down the line, Variety also commented that Sony receives well above 50 percent of ticket sales, while Marvel still holds the marketing sales of the toys. So expect to see a lot more Spider-Man toys than there were already.

Also, despite early reports saying otherwise, The Wall Street Journal says The Sinister Six, Venom and female Spider-Man character spin-off movies are still a go at Sony, but The Amazing Spider-Man 3 is, of course, dead.

Only some of this information is confirmed at the moment, although it's hard to believe any of these reports are false or implausible.
