Colin Firth may return for 'Kingsman 2', according to director Matthew Vaughn

Even when butting heads with the ever-controversial film adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey, Matthew Vaughn's latest Kingsman: The Secret Service still held its own, as the R-rated actioner scored a $35.6 million debut over the weekend here in the U.S. alone. With those dollar-signs spinning, sequel talk is, of course, in the air, and the director may have possibly found a way to bring back his star Colin Firth.

Expect spoilers for Kingsman to proceed the post below. If you haven't gotten the chance, though, check it out because it's a hell of a good time.

Vaughn discussed his ideas for a potential sequel to the movie adapted from the graphic novel by Mark Miller and Dave Gibbons to USA Today. As you may remember, Firth's character Harry Hent spoilers was shot in the head by Samuel L. Jackson's character and left for dead, so one would think he'd be unable to return. Vaughn, however, may have a way to make that happen.

“A lot of people are very upset that Colin might not be in the sequel but I’m coming up with ideas at the moment. If people buy tickets in America, I’ve got a feeling we’ll figure out a way for having Colin back," the director remarked, cheekily.

Of course, Kingsman is Eggsy's story either way, played by Taron Egerton. Whether or not Firth makes a comeback, expect to see Egerton wielding and firing bullets if-or-when the forthcoming movie is made. Although, as the first movie was an origin story of sorts, Kingsman 2 will serve more as a reformation of Eggsy's character.

"The sequel will be ‘This is the modern-day gentleman spy,'" Vaughn said. "Because Harry isn’t. Harry even says, ‘There is a reason why we’ve developed weak chins.’ He said that meaning, ‘Look at us, we need to get new blood into this system,’ and that’s what Eggsy is. I joke that we’ve made the prequel to the Eggsy movie.”

That would most certainly make sense. Through it all, this is about Eggsy's transformation, though Vaughn admitted to Empire the choice to kill Firth wasn't an easy one.

"It was a big decision, but you have to make a decision that's right for the movie," Vaughn explained for why he killed the character. "I'm sure George Lucas had people saying, 'Are you sure we want to kill off Alec Guinness in Star Wars."

Guinness, of course, played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original. He famously was killed by the villain around three-fourths into the film, despite serving as the mentor to the main character. The comparison is certain apt for anyone whose seen both movies. While Kenobi didn't return to the screen until he was a ghost in Luke's fore-vision in Return of the Jedi, then later brought back to life thanks to Ewan McGregor in the prequels, though, it looks like Vaughn wants to have Hent return sooner than that.

Kingsman came in second place at box office this weekend, but a strong fan response and good critical score suggests it has legs.
