On this week’s episode of Chasing Life, Natalie decides to stay in Boston, George leaves for a new job in San Francisco, and April goes on her first official date with Leo.
The episode opens with April and Natalie having drinks at The Charles. The girls are both happy that they’re finally getting along with each other. In addition, Natalie flirts with the bartender. Meanwhile, at the Carver house, George and Sara attempt to talk about their relationship, but are interrupted by Brenna and Emma. They’re having a movie night and want to know if George will be staying to join them. A few moments later, April arrives home just in time to hear that George won’t be able to hang around. In addition, George shares the news that he’s been offered a job with the World Health Organization in San Francisco and will be leaving in a few days.
Cue opening theme.
Following the opening theme, Sara and George share a tense conversation outside the Carver house. Sara grows angry with George because she feels he’s taking the “easy way out” and even briefly considers going public with their relationship.
At Beth’s apartment, April shares the news about her uncle George. Simultaneously, Beth continues to lament her current roommate situation. A few moments afterward, April and Beth discuss Leo and April confesses she’s scared to be alone with him. Soon, Beth’s roommate returns, saying she’ll be moving out so she can live with her boyfriend. Beth is stressed because she needs to find a new roommate on short notice. Her current roommate offers to solve her problems, as a friend of hers is being evicted from her residence.
At work, Aaron congratulates April on a job well done; her article’s gotten the most hits for the week. He also announces that everyone will be working on stories with more personal touches. In addition, the paper will be eliminating the Arts and Entertainment section and merging it with the Lifestyle section. With Dominic’s department now shut down, he and April are assigned to work on a story together. When April returns home, she finds Natalie on the couch with Brenna; Natalie’s decided to stay in Boston. She says she’s sick of Florida and needs a break. She also informs April that she’s gotten a job at The Charles and has a place to stay, thanks to the bartender she flirted with.
The next morning, Brenna comments on how fast things have changed. She also suggests doing something special for George since he’s leaving. Sara and April both really seem to like the idea. When April leaves for work and Brenna goes back to bed to enjoy her last week of summer break before school starts again, Sara wonders if she should tell her daughters about her secret relationship with George.
April visits Leo at his new apartment on her way to work. He asks April what she thinks about having a real first date and they make plans to get together after George’s goodbye dinner in a few days.
Later, a colleague from The Sentinel makes things awkward for April and Dominic at a cancer benefit they both must cover for work. Dominic suggests they all split up, but eventually he and April meet up again. April also helps Dominic score a difficult interview with Monica, the musical director who arranged the entertainment for the benefit. During the interview, tensions flare and Dominic lets April know he’s still upset with her for keeping her cancer a secret from him.
Following the benefit, April picks up an order from The Charles and runs into Natalie, who’s not entirely happy with her new living arrangements, as she finds her new bartender beau too clingy. April asks Natalie if she’d like to stay with the Carver’s, but Natalie declines the offer, saying she’s going to save up for a place of her own.
Meanwhile, Beth meets her new potential roommate as she’s leaving for work.
At the same time, Brenna feels guilty that her mother is going all out for George’s goodbye dinner given the trouble she’s gotten into lately with Natalie and Greer. Sara asks about Greer and Brenna admits they’re having issues. She also asks what Brenna would think if she started dating again. In the midst of discussing their dating problems, Brenna notices an ad for a successful local chef named Quincy who also does catering and suggests they use him to cook George’s goodbye dinner.
At work, April and Dominic are writing their article on the cancer benefit they attended and things are growing worse by the minute. Simultaneously, April gets a call from Leo, who is unhappy that his parents have hired a live-in nurse to help take care of him. April promises Leo that she’ll help him figure things out and then returns to her project with Dominic. When the two get into a small scuffle, Aaron calls them into his office. Aaron passes along word from Monica that there appeared to be tension between April and Dominic at the cancer benefit the previous evening. When they confess their dating history, Aaron reminds them that they have to be professional despite their feelings toward each other. Later, April meets up with Beth and fills her in on Dominic. Beth discusses her new roommate.
Later, at the Carver house, Quincy makes a pass at Sara, further complicating her relationship with George during his goodbye dinner. A few moments afterward, George gives a touching speech directed at Sara, reassuring her that the distance won’t affect them. Once dinner has concluded, Quincy prepares dessert and continues flirting with Sara. Brenna makes the mistake of discussing Quincy’s flirting with George, who asks Brenna to look after her mom after he’s gone.
Meanwhile, Beth’s new roommate moves in and it turns out to be none other than Natalie.
Back at the Carver house, George and April discuss George’s impending departure and how weird things will be once he’s gone. George admits he has no idea what his new life will be like and that he will miss Boston. Enter Sara and the two share melancholy moment. Unaware of the turmoil affecting her mom and George, April mentions Dominic and their recent exchanges. Sara tells April to remain optimistic.
A few moments later, Sara and George talk in private. Sara feels they both deserve to be happy and the pair share a bittersweet goodbye that is interrupted by April.
After George’s goodbye dinner, April goes to Leo’s apartment for their date and they swim in his pool. And in an effort to be open with Leo, April tells him how she and Dominic had to team up on an assignment for work. Leo asks April if she ever thinks about being with Dominic again and she admits she does sometimes, but that she likes being with him. They kiss.
Meanwhile, Dominic contemplates sending the draft of the cancer benefit story to April and Sara broods over George’s absence. When April returns home, she checks her email and reads over the draft of her and Dominic’s story. At the same time, Dominic and Graham encounter Natalie at The Charles and Natalie uses Dominic to get her clingy bartender beau off her back. Enter Beth, who witnesses the entire exchange while making her way toward Graham.
