Authorities urged all residents of the coastal Cape Cod community in Massachusetts to stay inside their homes following a deadly shooting Thursday morning.
According to Reuters, the reason for the lockdown was because officers were trying to remove explosive devices from the home of the shooting suspect. The bomb squad was called in to help as well.
The Cape Cod Times noted that Bourne Police said they received a call about a car fire and explosions at a residence. While en route to the car fire, a woman called about a shooting at the home.
The gunman allegedly shot at officers when they arrived.
“One of the responding officers notified dispatch that he had been shot and was unable to move,” a statement by the police department read. “Additional officers reported they were pinned down by gunfire and unable to exit the area or continue to the victims.”
When law enforcement officials did get to the victims, one female was deceased and one was wounded.
Minutes later, the suspect was apprehended and that’s when police discovered "multiple incendiary devices" inside the home.
The condition of the injured officer and unidentified female are not known at this time.
