Beyoncé surpasses Aretha Franklin, becomes the female artist with the second most Grammy wins

The 57th Annual Grammy Awards was a historic night for Beyoncé as she earned three awards, surpassing Aretha Franklin and making her the female artist with the second most Grammy wins.

Before the awards show, the 33-year-old was one award shy of tying Franklin. However, early in the evening the “Flawless” singer picked up the award for Best Surround Sound Album for her 2013 album, Beyoncé, CBS Boston reports.

Beyoncé also won Best R&B Performance and Best R&B song both for her song “Drunk in Love” with husband Jay Z landing at a total of 20 Grammys.

During her acceptance, Beyoncé thanked God, her “beloved husband,” “her daughter who is watching” and of course “the Beyhive, for riding so hard.”

The only female artist in front of the singer now is Alison Krauss, who has 27 awards, E! News notes.

Beyoncé also shared a video and pictures of her and Jay Z with their awards on her Instagram page.

She certainly wasn’t lying when she said, “This has been an incredible year.”
