After four seasons on ABC Family, Melissa and Joey has been cancelled. A representative for ABC confirmed the shows ending earlier today.
The show will wrap final productions this week, with the final episodes airing this summer, claims The Wrap. Programming and Development executive vice president, Karey Burke, explains the show’s closing, “Now that the kids are grown and Mel and Joe have married and are looking towards starting a family, it seemed like a natural time to bring the series to a close.”
Airing Wednesdays at 8 PM, the show starred Melissa Joan Hart and Joey Lawrence. Having reached 100 filmed episodes this week, the show has clearly had a successful run. The 100th episode will act as the midseason finale, airing March 18, according to Variety.
There have been a number of guest stars throughout the shows successful stint on television. According to E!, big names such as Trevor Donovan and Brooke Burke have made appearances on the sitcom.
The show’s first season brought in an average of 2.2 million viewers. Ratings have since gone down to less than one million viewers. However, Melissa and Joey remained ABC’s highest rated sitcom.
