'50 Shades of Grey' author wants more control over sequel

E. L. James, author of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy, has demanded more control over the script for the next installment of the movie franchise.

According to Moviefone, production on the sequel to Fifty Shades of Grey has been stalled due to James' insistence to write the script herself. Universal Studios has been resistent to the idea and has not had a discussion with James since the film's release.

“The studio had always intended to sit down with the author after the film opened and discuss next steps, and that has not yet happened,” said a Universal spokesman.

James was given power over casting decisions for the first film and provided input to the filmmakers on adapting the story. Variety reports that the next installment in the Fifty Shades series could be without director Sam Taylor-Johnson and screenwriter Kelly Marcel as both are doubtful to return.

The sequel, entitled Fifty Shades Darker, may not start production until the first quarter of 2016.
