Trailer Weekly: 'Wild Card,' 'True Story' and 'Tracers'

This week’s column contains action, mystery, thrills and plenty of drama! Wild Card is an action crime drama that follows a bodyguard/ gambling addict, who gets mixed up with the mob. True Story is a dramatic thriller that delves into the relationship between a journalist and a murderer on FBI’s Most Wanted list, who lived free under the journalist’s name for years. Finally, TracersWild Card is dramatic action/crime film starring Jason Statham of the hit The Transporter and The Expendables movie franchises. It is based on the 1985 novel, Heat by William Goldman and a remake of the 1986 film adaptation that starred Burt Reynolds. Statham stars as a Las Vegas bodyguard with a gambling problem, who finds himself the target of the mob after unknowingly beating up a mob boss’ son. Also starring Stanley Tucci, Jason Alexander, Sofia Vergara, Anne Heche, Hope Davis, Milo Ventimiglia and Max Casella, the movie’s trailer shows Statham character, Nick Wild, kicking *ss around Sin City while battling a gambling addiction. Yet, he winds up in deeper than he ever thought possible when he beats up a mob boss’ son in retaliation for the beating of a friend of his. It opens in theaters on Friday, January 30.

True Story is a dramatic thriller starring James Franco, Jonah Hill, The Theory of Everything’s Felicity Jones and Gretchen Mol from the HBO original period crime drama television series Boardwalk Empire. The film is based on ex-New York Times journalist Michael Finkel’s memoir. It details the relationship between Finkel (Hill,) who was recently let go from the prestigious newspaper following a story gone wrong. Finkel then receives word that Christian Longo (Franco,) a man on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for murdering his family, has finally been captured after living under Finkel’s name outside the US for years. The film’s trailer illustrates how Finkel goes to see Longo in jail, how Longo tells him he followed Finkel’s career so much so that he felt like he knew him and how he lived using his name for years. Longo also wants to tell Finkel the “true story” of what happened to his family. It’s intensely emotional scenes are sure to please fans of both Franco and Hill. It opens in theaters on Friday, January 23.

Tracers is an actioner starring the insanely popular Twilight movie franchise’s Taylor Lautner and Marie Avgeropoulos of The CW’s post-apocalyptic television drama The 100. Lautner plays Cam, a New York City bike messenger, who is wanted by the mafia so he escapes into the world of Parkour, a holistic training discipline derived from military obstacle course training, after encountering Nikki (Avgeropoulos.) The motion picture’s trailer shows Lautner pushing himself to the absolute physical limit to learn different techniques requiring strength, endurance, speed and balance, in an effort to evade those after him. It opens in theaters on Friday, March 20.
