A groom-to-be hires a best man for his wedding in The Wedding Ringer. He’s got his work cut out for him because not only is he lacking a best man but also groomsmen and the wedding is in two weeks. Now he and his hired “friend” must find a way to convince his future wife and family that they’ve all been friends for years. The one hour and forty-one minute comedy stars Kevin Hart, Josh Gad, Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting and Cloris Leachman. It’s rated R for sex, language, drugs and nudity.
A jungle bear from Peru heads to the big city of London in Paddington. A family finds him in a train station and takes him in as one of their own. Things are looking up for the bear until a museum taxidermist finds out about him. The PG animated comedy is based on the popular children’s books by Michael Bond. The one hour and thirty-five minute family film stars Jim Broadbent, Nicole Kidman, Ben Whishaw, Sally Hawkins and Hugh Bonneville.
Authorities turn to a convicted hacker to halt a security breach, in Blackhat. The MIT coder and his American and Chinese cohorts travel the world and risk their lives to uncover a high profile cybercrime network. The action packed thriller stars Chris Hemsworth and Viola Davis. The two hour and thirteen minute film is rated R for violence and language.
A linguistics professor and mother battles Alzheimer’s disease in Still Alice. As her symptoms increase, she struggles to keep ties to the life she once lived and to those closest to her. Julianne Moore stars in the limited released drama alongside Alec Baldwin, Kristen Stewart and Kate Bosworth. The PG-13 film is based on Lisa Genova’s book and plays for one hour and forty-one minutes.
A coal-mining accident devastates a small town in Little Accidents. Following the travesty, the mining company executive’s son goes missing, putting a rift between the boy’s parents. The limited released drama stars Josh Lucas, Elizabeth Banks and Chloë Sevigny. The unrated film runs for one hour and forty-five minutes.
A couple’s romantic ski weekend is botched when the man’s ex appears in Three Night Stand. He is torn between trying to reignite the fire in his marriage and spending time with the woman he’s been pining for for years. An acclaimed Julliard dance instructor is interviewed by a young woman and her husband for her dissertation in Match. As he reflects on his past, the teacher soon comes to realize that there is more behind the interview than it appears. Patrick Stewart, Carla Gugino and Matthey Lillard star in the big screen version of Stephen Belber’s Tony Award-nominated play. The limited released drama plays for one hour and thirty-two minutes. It’s rated R for language, sex and drugs.
A lawless hideway where fantasies become reality is the setting for Vice. People pay to live in a resort among robots where their imagination can run wild but this utopia isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Bruce Willis, Thomas Jane and Johnathon Schaech star in the sci-fi adventure. The film is running in limited theaters for one hour and thirty-seven minutes. It’s rated R for violence, language, sex and nudity.

The students battle high profile schools for a chance at the crown and because of their lack of funds, have to think out of the box for unconventional ways to make their machine work. The one hour and fifty-three minute film is based on a true story. The PG-13 comedic drama stars Jamie Lee Curtis, Marisa Tomei, George Lopez and Esai Morales. It’s available in limited theaters.
Two wannabe filmmakers have the opportunity to get a script seen by a film producer in Loitering with Intent. It’s the chance they’ve been waiting for but they only have ten days to write it so they leave the city and head to the country for a quiet retreat. Staying at a relative’s upstate home proves to be more distracting than they planned. Award nominated films like this week’s Still Alice are making their way into theaters. Next week, audiences can catch Jennifer Aniston’s critically acclaimed role in Cake. Other films debuting on January 23 are Johnny Depp’s Mortdecai and Jennifer Lopez’s latest The Boy Next Door.
