George RR Martin, author of the groundbreaking series A Song of Fire and Ice that inspired the hit HBO show Game of Thrones, has yet to announce a 2015 release date for his upcoming volume, titled The Winds of Winter.
Jane Johnson, Martin’s publisher, confirmed on Friday that the sixth installment has no release date in the upcoming year. Instead, fans can enjoy an alternate glimpse into the world of Westeros through the publication of three novellas called The Hedge Knight, The Sworn Sword, and The Mystery Knight. Set 100 years before the events of A Song of Fire and Ice, the newly illustrated prequels will be published this October, according to the The Guardian.
Johnson said of the latest additions, “The short novels have been previously published in separate anthologies but never put together before, and this will be a particularly beautiful edition.” As for The Winds of Winter she states, “I have no information on likely delivery.”
There hasn’t been an addition to the trailblazing series since the 2011 release of A Dance with Dragons. Recently, a “12 Days of Christmas” Twitter promotion suggested news of The Winds of Winter’s imminent completion, but Martin immediately took to his blog to denounce the rumors.
He wrote, “When it is done, I will say that's it is done, on whatever day I happen to finish.”
Game of Thrones, on the other hand, continues to move right along. Season five will premiere April 12 on HBO.
