With 2015 well underway, the movies of 2014 are still dominating theaters. But by February, when the awards season is finally over, the movies of 2015 take over the scene.
This year is going to be insane when it comes to summer blockbusters. There are so many coming out. But the biggest movie of the year is actually coming out in December. We are all anticipating Star Wars: The Force Awakens, so the conversation at TheCelebrityCafe.com this week was what other than that movie. We also tried to keep The Avengers: Age of Ultron out of the conversation, too.
Chelsea Lewis: My most anticipated movie is Entourage (June 5). HBO is known for their unique original programming but I have to admit, I was a fan of Entourage more than Sex and the City and I cannot wait for the feature film to arrive in theaters. The characters of Ari, Lloyd, E, Turtle and Vince will be bringing their crazy antics and humor to the big screen and hopefully they can make the transition from TV to film. The only question is will the movie be able to continue the storyline where the show left off? Entourage will be opening in theaters on June 5, 2015.
Will Ashton: Truth be told, I'm not all that excited about Avengers: Age of Ultron, and my anticipation for J.J. Abrams' Star Wars: The Force Awakens as much as my Internet counterparts. But I am most definitely excited for quite a few projects coming up.
If the Coen brothers’ latest, Hail, Caesar! somehow makes it way into theaters next year, that's most definitely making the top of my list. Unless that happens, however, I got to go with a couple others. In the blockbuster scene, I'm super pumped to see Mad Max: Fury Road (May 15) this summer. In the indie world, I'm very interested to see The Lobster (March) and the David Foster Wallace biopic The End of the Tour. I'm also very eager to see Michael Fassbender and Marion Cotillard bring my favorite Shakespeare tale to life with Macbeth. But the ones I'm most excited are Martin Scorsese's Silence and Quentin Tarantino's The Hateful Eight. They may be the most predictable choices, but I'd be lying if I didn't call them my top picks.
Samantha Ravenscroft: I absolutely can not wait to see The Scorch Trials (Sept. 18), the sequel to The Maze Runner. I read the books by James Dashner last year and was so absorbed into the story. I finally saw The Maze Runner movie last week because I'm a bit wary of watching movies based on books I've read. Usually the movies end up being a major disappointment, but I was pleasantly surprised with the film. Hopefully the second film will be as great as the first one!
Gina DiFalco: I'm going to be cliche this week and choose Fifty Shades of Grey (Feb. 13). There's something about reading books and waiting on the edge of your seat to watch the characters come to life in their film adaptations, especially when you invest yourself in a trilogy like this one. I had some hesitation about Jamie Dornan and Dakota Johnson being cast in the title roles, but I'm just itching to see them on-screen together.
Tina Henry: The plot still being kept under wraps doesn't keep me from anticipating another great performance by Tom Cruise as Impossible Mission Force senior field agent Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible 5 (Dec. 25). I love Cruise and I love this action packed series. Cruise doesn't disappoint when doing his own stunts, and each installment of this film series has brought bigger and more dangerous stunts than the last. One stunt already revealed for the upcoming MI5 involves Cruise hanging from the side of an Airbus A400M at 5,000ft. over the British countryside. The Daily Mail was in the right place at the right time to catch some photos and video of the actor performing the stunt.
Angela Corry: Minions (July 10) is top of my list. I love the Despicable Me movies, and the Minions singing "Barbara Ann" is my ringtone. I want my own Minion, actually. I'd tell you it's because of my children, but that would be a lie. I'd watch them anyway!
Daniel S Levine: I’m a big Star Wars geek, so it’s hard not to want to write about how excited I am to hear the "Main Title March" in a theater for the first time in a decade. I’m also excited about Pixar’s two movies, Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur.
However, I’ll go with the other movie about dinosaurs opening this year, Jurassic World (June 12). I love the first two (yes, I do know how stupid The Lost World is), so the news that the awful JPIII won’t be the franchise’s last movie is fantastic. Plus, I did enjoy Colin Trevorrow’s funny Safety Not Guaranteed, so it will be exciting to see what he does with a bigger sandbox to play in.
