The Washington Redskins will be hiring Scot McCloughan as their next general manager. The deal is still being finalized.
According to NFL.com, the deal will be for four years. McCloughan said that he had discussions with the New York Jets and Oakland Raiders as well. The move would have current GM and president Bruce Allen being just the team’s president.
McCloughan was the Vice President of player personnel for the San Francisco 49ers for three years. In 2008 he became the 49ers GM. He was fired after the 2010 season. After the 49ers fired him, McCloughan joined the Seattle Seahawks as a top talent evaluator, according to Sporting News. He left the Seahawks in April 2014 for personal reasons.
The personal reason had to do with alcohol.
"I had a drinking problem, McCloughan told ESPN The Magazine. "I'm a good person. And I know how to run a team."
This season Washington had a dismal season. It was the first season under first-year coach Jay Gruden. This season Washington went 4-12. They were 28-52 in the five years that Allen was GM, according to ESPN.
Allen has said that they would look at any move if it would help the team win. It will be interesting to see if this move works.
