As a producer, Mark Wahlberg has already transitioned one of his beloved HBO series to the big screen with next year's Entourage. But that's not stopping Marky Mark from setting his sights on getting another one up there too by making a Boardwalk Empire film.
For the Transformers: Age of Extinction actor, who executive produced the recently-concluded drama, revealed he wants make a film continuation of the Steve Buscemi-starring show. He also already has a big-time director in mind: his Departed director Martin Scorsese.
While promoting The Gambler, Wahlberg told NJ.com his "next goal now is to get the (Boardwalk Empire) movie made and start talking to Martin Scorsese about directing it." Scorsese, who also was an executive producer for the show, helmed the pilot and would bring things full circle as far as the director's chair is concerned. While very involved with Boardwalk Empire's beginning, his creative output for the show silenced as it progressed.
Without getting into spoilers, some fans of the show will wonder how that may even be possible, and the producer has a response for that by saying "We can always go back." So don't count out a (possible) Boardwalk Empire movie being a prequel.
Scorsese already has a number of projects in various forms of development, including his next film Silence, starring Liam Neeson and Andrew Garfield, in pre-production and set to hit theaters sometime in 2015. He is also working on a different HBO series altogether, an untitled rock 'n' rock series he'll executive produce alongside Mick Jagger. That show, created by his Wolf of Wall Street writer Terence Winter, has already been picked up straight for series by the station with Scorsese also directing the pilot.
If that weren't enough, he also has two other shows in the works with the studio, which are Cortes with Benicio Del Toro and a show version of his 2010 film Shutter Island.
Whether or not Wahlberg gets this Boardwalk Empire movie off the ground, he does have the Entourage movie in the bag and ready to hit theaters on June 5, 2015. In addition to Entourage and Boardwalk Empire, Wahlberg also produced the HBO series How to Make It in America and In Treatment.
