Outfielder/first baseman Daniel Nava has agreed to a deal with the Boston Red Sox which now prevents the necessity of arbitration.
The deal is for one year and $1.85 million. Nava wanted a salary of $2.25 million and the Red Sox countered that with a $1.2 million offer, according to the Boston Herald. In addition to Nava, the Red Sox have reached deals with arbitration eligible pitchers Rick Porcello and Junichi Tazawa. Left-handed pitcher Wade Milley is the only Red Sox player that is unsigned and eligible for arbitration. Miley is asking for $4.3 million and has been offered $3.4 million.
Nava struggled early in the season last year. The struggles resulted in him being sent to Triple-A Pawtucket. After returning from Triple-A he increased his average from .130 to .270 and had four homeruns and 37 RBIs, according to ESPN. He led the Red Sox with a .308 average from June through the rest of the season.
Nava isn’t the only player to get a deal with the Red Sox recently. The Red Sox have signed five players to minor league contracts with an invite to spring training. Outfielder Quintin Berry, left-handed pitcher Dana Eveland, first baseman/outfielder Bryan LaHair, right-handed pitcher Felipe Paulino, and catcher Humberto Quintero are the new additions to the Red Sox.
