The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired center Timofey Mozgov on Wednesday in a trade with the Denver Nuggets.
In addition to getting Mozgov the Cavaliers will get two second-round picks for 2015. The Nuggets will get two projected first-round picks for 2015, according to the Associated Press. The Mozgov trade is the second trade for the Cavaliers in three days. On Monday the Cavaliers sent guard Dion Waiters to the Oklahoma City Thunder and got guards J.R. Smith and Iman Shumpert from the New York Knicks.
David Griffin, the Cavaliers general manager, had wanted to get Mozgov for months and finally got him.
''His numbers didn't need to be flashy,'' Griffin said. ''We've got three guys that are top 20 players in the NBA. Those guys can be flashy. We need guys that do the dirt work. ... It fits our needs.''
Mozgov is familiar with Cavaliers coach David Blatt. He played for Blatt on the Russian national team. This season he is averaging 8.5 points and 7.8 rebounds, according to Fox Sports. He also is averaging 1.2 blocks per game. In his five year career Mozgov is averaging 6.4 points and 4.9 rebounds.
The Cavaliers have struggled this season and have had to deal with lots of injuries. They are currently 19-16 and are hoping that this move will help turn things around.
