Nominations for the Producers Guild of America awards were announced this morning and helped solidify the awards season positions for the favorites of 2014.
As expected, Boyhood, Birdman, The Imitation Game and The Theory of Everything were all nominated. Gone Girl got a nice boost for its Oscar chances with a nomination, while The Grand Budapest Hotel continues to make it clear that it will not be forgotten.
The other nominees for the Darryl F. Zanuck Award for Outstanding Producer of Theatrical Motion Pictures, as listed at The Hollywood Reporter are Foxcatcher, American Sniper, Nightcrawler and Whiplash.
Oddly, Selma was left out of the mix. Interstellar’s lack of a nomination here also puts its Oscar chances in danger.
The nominees for Animated Film are: Big Hero 6, The Book of Life, The Boxtrolls, How To Train Your Dragon 2 and The LEGO Movie.
Documentary nominees are The Green Prince, Life Itself, Merchants of Doubt, Particle Fever and Virunga.
The PGA Awards will be handed out on Jan. 24 at Los Angeles’ Hyatt Regency Century Plaza. Last year, there was a tie between Gravity and 12 Years A Slave. Eight of the 10 films nominated were also nominated for the Best Picture Oscar.
