This week’s column is all about drama, raw sentiments, thrills and chills. Woman in Gold is a drama detailing the true tale of a courageous woman who fights the Austrian government to reclaim an iconic painting of her aunt that was taken by the Nazis. McFarland, USA illustrates the true story of a Latino high school cross country team and the coach who leads them to victory. Finally, The Boy Next Door depicts a divorced woman who falls for the young man who moves in next door, but finds out he has a dark secret. All three films are chock full of emotion, some sorrowful, some tender and sensitive. In addition, two of the three films are based on true events, making them that much more meaningful for audiences to watch. Plus, all three motion pictures have a throng of high end celebrities in their casts, which will no doubt bring heaps of moviegoers to their opening days.
The Woman in Gold is a drama starring Helen Mirren, Ryan Reynolds, Katie Holmes, Frances Fisher, Jonathan Pryce, Charles Dance and Elizabeth McGovern. The film is based on the 1987 true account of coach Jim White (Costner) in the small California town of McFarland as he finds a job at a predominately Latino high school. Though at first, he struggles to find commonality with his students, he learns they have extraordinary running capability so he creates an inexperienced team of runners with the goal of winning a championship and thus forming a legacy. The motion picture’s trailer shows Claire and Noah bonding as they get to know each other as neighbors.
