TThis week’s column is all about drama; there is one film mixed with comedy, one that’s simply straight, no-nonsense emotion and the last is filled with action, adventure and loads of intrigue. While You’re Young tells the story of a middle-aged married couple whose life is changed when a young couple enters their lives and makes them examine themselves. Cake follows a troubled woman’s friendship with a widower and then her growing fascination/obsession with his dead wife. Terminator Genisys picks up the story of man versus machines in the year 2029 as John Connor battles against a new plan by Skynet to obliterate humanity. All three movies have tremendous A-list star power in their casts. In addition, certain actors/actresses in these films are playing roles far out of their comfort zones, which may or may not appeal to their fans. However, all three films' plots are distinctive and are surely guaranteed to elicit strong emotional responses and powerful feelings within audiences.
While You’re Young is a dramedy about a middle-aged couple who has settled into the ordinary routine of their careers and domestic routine. Then, a young couple enters their lives and makes them think about their youth and how they’ve become so ordinary. Starring Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Watts, Ben Stiller, Charles Grodin and Adam Driver, the trailer shows Stiller and Watts as a married couple with a new baby, who meets a young couple who opens their eyes to the world in a completely different way. It opens in theaters on March 27, 2015
Cake is a drama that follows a woman who becomes involved with a widower then becomes fixated on his deceased wife. Starring Jennifer Aniston, Anna Kendrick, Sam Worthington, Felicity Huffman, William H. Macy and Lucy Punch, the film’s trailer is imbued with Aniston’s character, Claire Simmons, who has many emotional issues, as she befriends a widower but then becomes obsessed with learning about his dead wife. This role is a severe departure for Aniston, who usually is seen in comedies and RomCom’s. Her performance produces such raw emotion that many of her fans might be taken aback, but riveted just the same. It opens in theaters sometime in January 2015.
Terminator Genisys rejoins the seemingly never-ending battle between Skynet and humanity. This time around, its 2029 and John Connor must face a new plan by Skynet that involves using both his past and future in order to eliminate him and win the war. Arnold Schwarzenegger returns as The Terminator along with Jai Courtney, Game of Thrones’Emilia Clarke, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ Jason Clarke and Matt Smith from the BBC television series Doctor Who. The recently released trailer displays Skynet changing the past and Kyle Reese and Sarah Connor fighting to preserve it so John can lead the Resistance in the future to ultimate victory against the machines. It opens in theaters on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.
