Sega taps Evan Cholfin to help adapt video games for movies, television

Video game company Sega is looking to branch into the film industry.

The company hired Evan Cholfin, previously an executive at Break Media, as the leader of production and development at Stories International, according to Variety. Stories International is a business created by companies Sega and Hakuhodo DY Group, a major advertising company, three years ago.

IGN reported that Stories is able to adapt many games for live-action and animated films and shows. Sega games that will be adapted include Altered Beast, Streets of Rage, and Crazy Taxi, among other games.

Variety reported that Cholfin’s previous experience at Break Media was as a director of the development of programming for film and TV, as well as digital platforms. He was also a producer alongside Lorenzo di Bonaventura for Higher Power, and even worked with high-profile names such as David Fincher and Steve Zaillian.

Sega isn’t the only video game company creating its own business sector in film. Variety also reported that Electronic Arts made the recent Need for Speed film using its own film sector. Ubisoft is doing the same thing to make film adaptations of their game series’ including Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs, among others.
