Resurrection returned this week after a two week hiatus. The episode began in Tom’s (Mark Hildreth) church with a woman telling him she can no longer live with her late husband’s father, who is returned because it is causing a strain on her family. She is one of five people who have abandoned their family members due to the red crosses that were put on the doors of the returned. Bellamy (Omar Epps) tries to convince her not to abandon her father in law, but she doesn’t change her mind. “He’s a human being just like you.” Bellamy says. “A human being? I don’t know what that is,” the woman replies.
Back at the hospital, Ray has been falling in and out of consciousness for the past four hours and his condition is getting worse. Maggie (Devin Kelley) believes she may know how Rachel (Kathleen Munroe) got better and wants to test it out on Ray. Maggie believes it may be the baby’s Amniotic fluid that saved Rachel. She informs her that she wants to do a test to see if it could help the other sick returned. Rachel agrees even though she is informed that she could be at risk of losing the baby. Tom also tells Rachel that he was going to inject her against her wishes when she was unconscious, but Rachel surprisingly isn’t upset. She tells him it’s ok.
At the Langston’s, Margaret (Michelle Fairley) is looking through old photos. She discovers one of William Kirk, the returned grandfather of the investor Henry (Kurtwood Smith) is doing business with. She goes to the investor’s, Brian Addison, house saying I didn’t know you knew him. Brian tells her that William is his grandfather after adding that he didn’t think she would remember. Margaret informs him that was the foreman and she knew everyone who labored there. Margaret also mentions all the nasty rumors that surrounded her family when she was little. She says that if they are true, she wouldn’t blame someone for wanting revenge on her family. The investor asks her what she wants and she tells him to kill the deal with Henry and stay away from her family.
Henry later gets the call saying the Brian pulled out. “Did they say why?” Margaret asks. No, Henry says determined to talk to the investor face to face to see why he dropped out. Margaret tells him to drop it, there will be other investors.
However, Henry doesn’t listen. He goes to the Brian’s house anyway. “If you back out now, you’ll regret it,” Henry says. Just then William comes out from the back of the house. Upon learning that he is a returned that used to work for the factory before Henry was born, Henry offers him a job if his Brian will re-join forces with him. William tells his grandfather that he should take Henry to the bank right away.
While at the bank, Henry learns that the factory land isn’t worth the amount of money he thought it was worth. As a result, Henry decides to re-mortgage the Langston house.
Lucille (Frances Fisher) comes to Maggie’s office to apologize and brings lunch, likely a piece offering. Lucille tells Maggie that Barbara (April Billingsley) didn’t deserve that. However, Maggie sort of seems unforgiving. “I’m sorry for your lost,” Lucille says on the way out.
Maggie later realizes that she was a little too harsh on Lucille, so she calls her saying that she understands why she said the things she did to her mother because when her mother first returned she was mad at her mother as well. Maggie tells Lucille that they should just try to move forward.
Upon gathering the fluid from Rachel, Maggie injects it into Ray. Ray tells Maggie “If I die, I want to stay dead. But if I come back, tell Elaine don’t trust me. It won’t really be me.”
At Tom’s household, Janine (Lori Beth Sikes) is upset about the amnio. Janine tells Tom that Maggie guilt-tripped Rachel into doing it and that Rachel only wants it for her best friend’s brother.
Janine later tells Rachel that as a precaution Tom told her they should go to her sister’s house. Tom comes home to an empty house and eventually discovers Janine’s journal. In the journal, Janine has been following through Rachel’s whole pregnancy and making a list of potential baby names, and nursery colors. Janine also talks about Rachel getting an amnio on what she refers to as her baby in the journal.
Tom calls her to ask where she is and she lies to Tom telling him that she took Rachel to the OBGYN. However, shortly after Rachel calls Tom because she says Janine is acting strange. Tom asks her where she is and Rachel says I’m at Janine’s sister’s where you told us to go. Tom informs Rachel that she has to get out of there because Janine is lying. He adds that Janine is trying to keep Rachel from him because he is in love with her and Janine knows that she can’t have the baby without him. Tom continues telling Rachel that he’s always been in love with her, this whole time he was just trying to be a good husband. Rachel says she loves Tom as well and he informs her that he is coming to get her.
Fred (Matt Craven) and Bellamy integrate the leader of the true living group, Joey Nolan, who have been after the returned. Fred says he went to school with his father. “You know they’re dangerous,” Joey says adding that Fred called the army on them. “You got a problem with the returned, you got a problem with me because I’m returned too,” Bellamy says leaving everyone shocked because they were unaware that he was a returned.
Later Bellamy is worried that the true living group is planning on attacking the returned again so he heads over to the church check on the returned that have been abandoned. Just as Tom is heading out of the church to get Rachel, somebody throws tear gas through the window. As Tom stumbles out of the church, he is struck by Deputy Carl’s car (Christopher Berry) who leaves Tom lying in the street.
