Joe Crocker, best known for covering Beatles songs, has died at the age of 70 after battling lung cancer.

Crocker passed away at his home in Colorado but he was born in Sheffield, England.

Sony Music confirmed his passing in a statement on Monday. His agent, Barrie Marshall, told The BBC, “It will be impossible to fill the space he leaves in our hearts,” adding, "He was without the doubt the greatest rock/soul voice ever to come out of Britain and remained the same man throughout his life."

The Beatles’ Ringo Starr, took to Twitter to send his condolences. “Goodbye and God bless to Joe Cocker from one of his friends peace and love. R,” he wrote.

Crocker is known for his cover of “With a Little Help From My Friends,” which put him on the map in 1968, TMZ reports. It served as the theme song for The Wonder Years.

His duet with Jennifer Warnes, "Up Where We Belong,” earned them both a Grammy and an Academy Award.

Crocker toured as recently as last year and his last performance was in June in Hammersmith, London.
