How to watch New Year's Eve: Your guide to the biggest specials

Today is the last day of 2014 and who better to spend those final hours with than celebrities? OK, you could spend that time with your loved ones, but something has to be on the TV to keep you awake.

Most of the major broadcast networks, plus a few cable channels, will be hosting parties to help anyone not in Times Square see the ball drop. To help you decide which one you should watch, here’s a guide:

Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest

ABC airs the most well-known special and the one with the longest title. Beginning at 8 p.m., you can enjoy watching Ryan Seacrest try to keep smiling in bitter cold temperatures while today’s biggest pop stars perform behind him. Jenny McCarthy will also be in the crowd, asking tourists how cold they are. (Yes, it’s going to be really cold.)

Performers include One Direction, Taylor Swift, Iggy Azalea, Elton John, Nick Jonas, Idina Menzel, Florida Georgia Line, Charli XCX and Fergie. Gavin DeGraw and Lady Antebellum will perform from Nashville.

New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly

NBC gets the most out of Carson Daly, who apparently never sleeps. He hosts New Year’s Eve, which will feature Tony Bennett, Lady Gaga, Seth MacFarlane and The Voice coaches Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani. Festivities kick off at 10 p.m. and is preceded by a 2014 clip-show.

New Year’s Eve Live

CNN’s Year Year’s Eve Live special is fun to watch because you never know how Kathy Griffin will embarrass Anderson Cooper this year. Considering the temperatures though, we doubt that she’ll strip down. It starts at 9 p.m.

Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution

Pitbull has cemented his status as hosts of shows you don’t know exist. His latest effort is Fox’s Pitbull’s New Year’s Revolution, which will be live from Miami. The festivities start at 8 p.m.

MTV’s New Year’s Eve 2015

MTV has recruited Victoria Justice and Charlemagne to host its own New Year’s Eve special. That kicks off at 11 p.m.
